HISTORY

Texas Business Women traces its beginnings to 1919. Since this time, former members have laid the groundwork for business women with the adoption of the Texas Equal Rights Amendment guaranteeing women the right to control property separately from their husbands and close the gap between women and men in the workplace.  Most recently, Texas Business Women worked to establish the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Hospital in Texas.







STATE LEADERSHIP

Executive Committee: The Texas Business Women Executive Committee is comprised of elected officers: President, President-Elect, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The President also appoints a Parliamentarian to serve.                

Board of Directors: The voting members of the TexasBusinessWomenBoard of Directors are the Executive Committee,ImmediatePastState President; and three Directors –at –Large. The Editor of the official state magazine; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Texas Business&ProfessionalWomen’s Foundation and Parliamentarian are non-voting members of the board. Standing and Special Committee Chairs may be invited to attend Board meetings.

LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

A Local Organization (LO) is a group of TBW members. The LO will have officers, a board of directors, and committee chairs as leaders.Each LO makes their plans for the year based on the President’s Plan of Action.

They must maintain a minimum of five (5) members and/or student members to remain in good standing and atleast ten percent (10%) should be employed.

Any new or revised LO bylaws are reviewed and approved by the state Bylaws Chair, who is appointed by the state president. The Bylaws Chair ensures that there are no provisions in conflict with the TBW Articles of Incorporation  and Bylaws. Any conflict shall be resolved in accordance with State Organization policy and procedures.
